About
Japan
The Shinjuku Area
Shinjuku is one of the major areas for dining, shopping and
entertainment in Tokyo. It is home to all of the major Japanese department
stores, most of whose upper floors are comprised solely of restaurants.
Many of them also have souvenir sections selling everything from the tacky
to Japanese arts and crafts.
There are hundreds of restaurants in
the area surrounding Kogakuin University’s Shinjuku Campus. They
range in price from the very expensive to the very cheap, and the variety
is what you would expect from any large urban center: from traditional
Japanese, to fast food. There are many places to get a quick bite in the
JR Shinjuku Station underground complex, and on the small streets bordered
by the Post Office, Koshu Avenue, and JR Shinjuku Station. Most of the
hotels in the surrounding area also house restaurants, as do many of the
skyscrapers in the area. Many of these buildings’ top floors are
comprised solely of restaurants, which range in price and food selection
and offer excellent views of Tokyo and its surrounding area. A trip to
the upper floors of the Center Building, located across the street from
the campus is well worth the trip if only for the view.
The East side of JR Shinjuku Station
also has hundreds of shops and restaurants, but these may be a bit far
from the campus if you are intending to have a quick lunch. |
